"Photography is an instantaneous operation, both sensory and intellectual- an expression of the world in visual terms, and also a perpetual quest and interrogation. It is at one and the same time the recognition of a fact in a fraction of a second and the rigorous arrangement of the forms visually perceived which give to that fact expression and significance." [Henri Cartier Bresson “The World of Bresson”]

It is said the iris is the portal to our soul, this means that the eye seems to be the key to ourselves. What we see affects our soul and therefore our innermost being if you let it flow. Pictures which develop in that kind of sense help me grow. By the way, my camera has an iris too...

Martina Gruber [Candy values]
candy
values
Let's hang our values on a strick, like villains out of waste, like rubbish that we throw away, oblivious to its worth. Let's put lifestyle there instead, on gaudy candy stricks, that we think beautiful to be and not a hangman's work.

Johanna Kolb [same:thing]
because of now
because of yesterday
Photography means looking, discovering and showing things in many different ways. It’s a mean of defuse the reality: heights seem not that high anymore, the night not so dark, something sad can make you laugh.
In my work „same:thing“ i tried to picture the absurdity of human belongings, by picturing the life of wild dogs living on the beaches of a tropical island. The dogs seem to adopt the habits of tourists passing by there. |

We are often considered to be strange by acting unusual or looking different. I try to picture that and furthermore give the viewer a strange feeling by confusing and surprising him with a vanished face or inverted head. |

Find the mistakes in the pictures belonging together and solve the riddle. What’s the ordinary case? In my photographs I show the difference of the ordinary case of a matter and a “strange one”, what’s the totally normal way of acting? – You can find your ordinary way – but is it the right one? Am I boringly normal / strange? |

One World, two Faces
One World, two Faces
One World, two Faces - one pure and clean, flowing in a balance ... ... the other one distorted, scarred and dirty – treated with little respect by mankind. There are moments of joy and those of sorrow, we can try to choose the best. Plenty of moments are captured in visual ways, on paper screens and film, and try to tell stories, but only a few make us wonder ...

... what is it? What is behind our outer shell - why is it more important to have a certain appearance towards our environment than for ourselves alone. Is it "just" a matter of of showing respect to someone - why are you treated differently simply by wearing different clothing ...?

Let it flow let yourself go
"... Let it flow let yourself go. Slow and low that is the tempo. The beat is slow in order to dance. I wanna' hear I do's and no I can't. First you move your legs and then your arms. It's not fast and nervous this dance is calm. It's truly stable and you ought to be able. To dance to the record when it's on the turntable ..." [Beastie Boys "Slow and Low"] |
Claudia Wessely [What's strange about me?]
What's strange about me?
I asked myself what's strange... there is so much in the world what's strange, but in some strange way there is all normal! Because, who can really decide what's strange and what's normal? Who is allowed to decide in our world? When I became strange thoughts about "normal" and "strange", I came to the resolution that EVERYTHING and EVERYONE both is! So we are all the same, even me!!! This is a good feeling to know that we all are the same!!! Can you feel how confident and self-secure it makes you only to know THIS!!! |
